Radilovo Village

Radilovo is a beautiful traditional Bulgarian village nestling in the foothills of the Rodopi mountains, sitting at an altitude of between 300/499m. Our villa and apartment are at 499m. We are in the region of South Central Bulgaria in the District of Pazardzhik and the Municipality of Peshtera, 104km from the Capital city of Sofia, 58km from Plovdiv, 18km from Pazardzhik and 5km from Peshtera. There are approximately 1570 residents who are very warm, friendly and hospitable people, they have made us very welcome. The village has a variety of services which include 7 shops for food and drink, most of these also serve espresso coffee, Bulgaria's most popular drink (after rakia), 2 general stores, a Post Office, also we have a small bakery and a chemist. There is a church, a small museum, which was an old hospital from the 1880 uprising against the Turkish yoke, it was founded by an English lady, Lady Strangford. There are 8 bar/cafes which serve alcohol, soft drinks and coffee with some serving food. We also have a very good bus service to the surrounding larger towns.

We never grow tired of watching the goats and cows leaving the village in the mornings to graze for the day in the mountain meadows, and listening to the bells clang as they wander off. They then return home in the early evening, they are left in the centre of the village to make their way home (which they do automatically).
